Winterburn played left back from 1981 to 2003 and is best know for his part in Arsenal's strong defence during the 1990’s. Winterburn won countless trophies with the club during their success in the 1990's, and earnt himself an England call up as a consequence. Winterburn retired in February 2003 after a short spell at West Ham.
